How to export Google Maps saved places to GPX

GPX (GPS Exchange Format) is a universal format supported by almost every GPS device, hiking app, and navigation tool — including Garmin, Gaia GPS, AllTrails, Apple Maps, and QGIS. How to get your Google Maps data as GPX: 1. Go to takeout.google.com and sign in. 2. Click "Deselect all", then scroll down and enable only "Maps (your places)". 3. Click "Next step" → "Export once" → "Create export". Google will email a download link within a few minutes. 4. Download and unzip the archive. Inside the "Maps" folder you will find "Saved Places.json". 5. Upload Saved Places.json to the Google Maps Saved Places Migrator tool. 6. In the export step, choose "GPX" as your output format. 7. Download your .gpx file and import it into any app that accepts GPX. Importing GPX into common apps: - Garmin devices: copy the .gpx file to the "GPX" folder on your Garmin via USB. - Gaia GPS: tap the + icon → Import → select your .gpx file. - AllTrails: use "Import GPX" from the profile menu on desktop. - Apple Maps: the GPX format opens individual waypoints when tapped in Files on iOS. - Google Maps: GPX is not natively importable into Google Maps — use KML instead (also available in the tool). Note: Google stores saved places with names, notes, and coordinates. GPX preserves all three as waypoint name, description, and location. If a place is missing coordinates in your Google export, the tool will note this in the preview before you export.
