Compare Google Timeline backups before trusting the newer file
Check two current phone exports for missing represented days, vanished semantic segments, reduced path detail, and lower raw position counts. Your location history stays in this tab.
1. Trusted older export
The backup whose history you want to preserve.
2. Newer export to check
A fresh export from the same account or replacement phone.
Maximum 150 MB per file · current phone exports only · nothing uploaded
- 01Android: open device Settings → Location → Location services → Timeline → Export Timeline data.
- 02iPhone or iPad: open Google Maps → profile picture → Settings → Location & Privacy → Export Timeline data.
- 03Keep the older trusted export unchanged. Create a fresh export from the phone you want to check.
- 04Upload the trusted file first and the newer file second. Compare the findings before deleting or replacing any backup.
No. It compares recognizable structures, dates, and record counts in two exported files. Lower counts or missing days are evidence to investigate, not proof of why the files differ.
No. The tool never changes or imports either file. It helps you decide whether a newer export appears less complete before you discard an older backup.
This beta supports current phone exports: the Android object layout with semanticSegments/rawSignals and the iOS-style bare semantic-segment array. It intentionally rejects legacy Google Takeout Records.json and monthly timelineObjects files.
No. Reports contain dates, counts, deltas, and structural findings only. Coordinates, Place IDs, Wi-Fi data, and raw Timeline records are never copied into the output.
No. Both JSON files are read and compared in this browser tab. Missing Features never receives your location history.
