Letterboxd treats marking a film watched, rating it, and logging it in your Diary as different actions. A film can appear in ratings.csv or watched.csv without having a watched date in diary.csv, which means it will not count toward date-based Diary summaries.
Export your account:
1. Sign in to Letterboxd on the website.
2. Open Settings, then choose "Import & Export".
3. Select "Export your data" and download the ZIP.
4. Keep the original ZIP as a backup. Letterboxd says the export can include deleted and orphaned content as well as active account data.
Audit and prepare repairs:
5. Upload the ZIP to the Letterboxd Diary Repair & Stats tool.
6. Review every proposed repair. The tool compares active diary.csv rows with ratings.csv and watched.csv. It keeps deleted and orphaned CSVs out of the active comparison.
7. Pay special attention to dates. Letterboxd says exported activity dates use New Zealand time, so a date may be one day later than expected in another time zone. A rating date may also differ from the date you actually watched the film.
8. Download the repair and stats ZIP.
The download contains:
- import-ready/letterboxd-diary-repair-import-*.csv: only rows with a valid source date and no ratings-versus-watched date conflict
- reports/repair-candidates-review.csv: every proposed repair, including rows held for manual review
- letterboxd-diary-normalized.csv: active Diary entries in Letterboxd's documented import-column format
- reports/yearly-stats.csv and reports/rating-distribution.csv: export-native summaries
- reports/data-quality.csv: malformed values, duplicate diary dates, and other warnings
- reports/deleted-content-inventory.csv: counts only; deleted and orphaned records are not added to repair imports
Import carefully:
9. Open an import-ready CSV in a text editor or spreadsheet and verify every WatchedDate.
10. In Letterboxd, open the Import screen and upload one repair CSV at a time.
11. Inspect Letterboxd's title matches and dates on its confirmation screen before applying the import.
Important: Letterboxd states that a confirmed import cannot be undone. Do not import a row when the proposed date is only a guess. The tool does not connect to your account and cannot apply or reverse changes.
