How to export your Facebook Messenger conversation

Facebook lets you download your personal data, including all your Messenger conversations, from the settings page. Here is how to get a single conversation or your full message history. Method 1 — Download your full Facebook data (includes all Messenger chats): 1. On Facebook (desktop or mobile), go to Settings & Privacy → Settings. 2. In the left panel, click "Your Facebook information". 3. Click "Download your information". 4. Click "Select types of information" and choose only "Messages". Deselect everything else to keep the download small. 5. Choose Format: HTML (easier to read) or JSON (required for the Messenger Conversation Binder tool). Choose JSON. 6. Choose the date range if you only want a specific period. 7. Click "Request a download". Facebook will prepare your file and notify you by email — this can take minutes to hours depending on how many messages you have. 8. Once ready, download the ZIP file from the "Available copies" section. 9. Unzip the archive. Inside you will find a "messages/inbox" folder with one subfolder per conversation. 10. Upload the folder or ZIP to the Facebook Messenger Conversation Binder — it will find all conversations and let you pick which one to export. Method 2 — Download a single conversation (mobile): Currently Facebook does not support downloading a single conversation directly. You will need to use the full data export above and then select the conversation you want inside the tool. What the export includes: - All messages (text, reactions, links, stickers) - Timestamps and participant names - Attachment filenames (the actual files may be in a separate folder in the ZIP) - Group chat names and participant changes
